Everyone seems to be obsessed with the Pokémon Go mobile game. That’s all people are talking about at home, at work, social settings, and online. It’s the hit of the summer. It’s really become a cultural phenomenon.

Pokémon Go, which launched in July 2016, is a location-based reality mobile game developed by Niantic. People are playing it indoors, outdoors…literally everywhere. While Pokémon Go may seem fun, it could also be dangerous.

According to news reports, many people have been injured or put themselves at risk while playing the game. Two men were injured after falling off a cliff while playing the game in San Diego, California. Another player crashed his car into a police cruiser after playing Pokémon Go and driving. These are just some of the many accidents that have occurred since the game launched.

If played irresponsibly, Pokémon Go can be dangerous. To help gamers have a smooth gaming experience and be stay safe while doing it, here are a few helpful tips:

  • Stay alert and remain aware of your surroundings, Pokémon Go creators advise.
  • Do not play Pokémon Go and drive. It’s dangerous for you and others on the road.
  • Do not play the game in unsafe or suspicious locations.
  • Avoid playing in inappropriate locations such as museums, cemeteries and other areas.
  • Look before you walk when you play outdoors (sidewalks, driveways, garages, parks and other places). Avoid slip and fall accidents.
